It is no secret that children grow up way too fast for most parent's liking, but taking pictures of your children is a wonderful way to preserve those memories and milestones of their childhood. Here are some tips and tricks to getting memorable pictures of your little one:

1. Get down on their level. By stooping down to eye-level with your child, you can capture a more accurate portrayal of their expressions and features. Zooming in until your child's face fills the frame can create some interesting and beautiful shots of their facial features, and don't forget to capture their little hands and feet while they are still so tiny. These pictures will be great reminders of how small they were at one time.
2. Focus on your child. An absolutely incredible shot will most definitely be ruined if the shot is not in focus or if the focus is on something other than your child. For most cameras, holding down the shutter button half-way automatically focuses the shot, but check your camera manual to confirm this step.
3. Try to eliminate distractions. A number of different elements can prove to distract the eye away from your child in a picture. Each time you take a shot, ask yourself two questions:
~What is in the background? Try to keep as little as possible in the background. Newborns lying on a solid colored blanket usually make wonderful pictures. One of the keys to a great picture is keeping the attention on the subject you are trying to capture in the shot, and this is a lot easier when the background is uninteresting.
~Is the clothing too distracting? Wild and busy clothing often takes focus away from your child's face.

4. Try turning off your flash. Using your flash can sometimes wash out your child and create unflattering shadows, so try turning off your flash and taking shots outside or near a window where the natural light can give a more natural look for your picture. Your camera is more prone to shake and cause the picture to be blurry when the flash is overridden , so make sure to hold your camera extra steady when attempting this.

5. Keep on shooting! By taking multiple shots of the same subject, you are more apt to get at least one excellent picture of what you want. Relax, have fun, and keep on shooting!
